Valentine Day messages - bear with me [Jan. 30th, 2009|08:55 pm]

sanjibabes
Imagine the scene....(cue music and wavy lines)...you're shopping for a card to give someone you love, in fact, it could be for Valentine's Day and you reach a card shop. Inside the card shop are hundreds of cards. Except, not the card(s) you want.

There are cards for monogamous people, there are bland generic cards of friendship, there are cards for heterosexual couples, there are cards for lesbian couples, there are cards for gay couples and there are cards which horrendously play on male/female stereotypes.

So, you opt for a card(s) with a lovely picture(s), BUT, it (they) do not contain the words of love.

So, what poems, ditties or rhymes would you make up to write in the card(s) for those you love?

Be creative!

I'll be collecting them and putting them together for a fluffy article for BCN.

LGBT Forum & Networking event (X-post) [Oct. 29th, 2008|06:58 am]

bethanthepurple
Hey all! I put my brave face on for the networking event and was Productive with as many people as possible.

Queer Ink, the LGBT writing group are happy to do a storywriting workshop with us.

AB+ (HIV support) still want us to explain bisexuality to members.

I've agreed to speak to the volunteers at the LGBT Switchboard about what our group does on Sunday 9th November. Shout out if anyone wants to join me then.

Also, planning for Pride is geting underway. The organisers want more of a village fete affair where we can make money for ourselves through games. First, what do you want from Pride? Second, IF grants were available, what would you want us to do?

Lastly, right now the forum is for LGB people. Back in the mists of time this was justified because 'no trans groups were interested in getting involved'. Hopefully this is soon going to change, so I'll keep people posted with developments.

For more information about Birmingham Pride Community Trust, look at this link: http://www.trustinpride.org.uk/

Take care,
Bethan

Birmingham Bi Group AGM [Sep. 4th, 2008|10:05 pm]

bethanthepurple
As 2 of our 3 committee members have moved to Leicester this month, [Bad username: brum bi group] needs to have an AGM to elect new committee members. The positions up for grabs are chair, treasurer, and secretary who are also the trustees, although if you can think of other positions for the group, we'll be discussing that too.

As the current secretary I'm happy to stay on committee, but everyone is welcome to come to the meeting to decide where to take the group in the future.

The meeting will be at 7.30pm next Tuesday 9th September at the usual place: HGL Centre 146 Bromsgrove Street opposite the Tesco Express & Club Missing on Hurst Street. At 9 we'll be heading to The Green Room pub opposite the Hippodrome.

We've a shiny new flyer advertising [info]brum_bi_group and the sister group in Manchester, BiPhoria -- so they're usable anywhere from about Kendal to Gloucester! (they also plug BCN magazine so useful even if either group is a little hard to get to)

I've passed Bethan a big stack of them so if you've somewhere local you can distribute them - community centre, LGBT project, library etc - give her a shout.

Oh, and they look like this:

Pride arrangements [Apr. 14th, 2008|04:09 pm]

bethanthepurple
There is a meeting scheduled for Tuesday April 15th 2008 at B5 at the Nightingale club from 6pm for community groups to arrange stalls for Pride and also raise any queries.

Anyone wanna come with me? The organiser also wants to speak to me about the presence of bi men in a gays+partners HIV support group, so any help would be welcome :)

invidios

Hello, nice meeting you all yesterday and thanks for the invite. As I mentioned I'm more than happy to help out with anything with the group; in the past I've done treasury, health and safety and IT on a voluntary basis for various projects, but could probably do most things, so please let me know if any such is required. Otherwise, see you all next month.

Best regards

Gavin

Hi chickens!

Bi group tonight, same as always - HGL Centre 146, opposite Tescos & Missing just off Hurst Street.

It would be great to discuss how we want to represent ourselves at Pride this year. I've uploaded to the "files" on the yahoo group different flyer designs, and will be bringing these as documents to the group for us to pick a favourite. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/birmingham_bisexuals/files/ to check them out.

See you later!
