LGBT Forum & Networking event (X-post)
Hey all! I put my brave face on for the networking event and was Productive with as many people as possible.
Queer Ink, the LGBT writing group are happy to do a storywriting workshop with us.
AB+ (HIV support) still want us to explain bisexuality to members.
I've agreed to speak to the volunteers at the LGBT Switchboard about what our group does on Sunday 9th November. Shout out if anyone wants to join me then.
Also, planning for Pride is geting underway. The organisers want more of a village fete affair where we can make money for ourselves through games. First, what do you want from Pride? Second, IF grants were available, what would you want us to do?
Lastly, right now the forum is for LGB people. Back in the mists of time this was justified because 'no trans groups were interested in getting involved'. Hopefully this is soon going to change, so I'll keep people posted with developments.

Birmingham Bi Group AGM
As 2 of our 3 committee members have moved to Leicester this month, [Bad username: brum bi group]
needs to have an AGM to elect new committee members. The positions up for grabs are chair, treasurer, and secretary
who are also the trustees, although if you can think of other positions for the group, we'll be discussing that too.
As the current secretary I'm happy to stay on committee, but everyone is welcome to come to the meeting to decide where to take the group in the future.
The meeting will be at 7.30pm next Tuesday 9th September
at the usual place: HGL Centre
146 Bromsgrove Street opposite the Tesco Express & Club Missing on Hurst Street. At 9 we'll be heading to The Green Room pub opposite the Hippodrome.

We've a shiny new flyer advertising brum_bi_group
and the sister group in Manchester, BiPhoria -- so they're usable anywhere from about Kendal to Gloucester! (they also plug BCN magazine so useful even if either group is a little hard to get to)
I've passed Bethan a big stack of them so if you've somewhere local you can distribute them - community centre, LGBT project, library etc - give her a shout.
Oh, and they look like this:

There is a meeting scheduled for Tuesday April 15th 2008 at B5 at the Nightingale club from 6pm for community groups to arrange stalls for Pride and also raise any queries.
Anyone wanna come with me? The organiser also wants to speak to me about the presence of bi men in a gays+partners HIV support group, so any help would be welcome :)

Hello, nice meeting you all yesterday and thanks for the invite. As I mentioned I'm more than happy to help out with anything with the group; in the past I've done treasury, health and safety and IT on a voluntary basis for various projects, but could probably do most things, so please let me know if any such is required. Otherwise, see you all next month.

Bi group tonight, same as always - HGL Centre 146, opposite Tescos & Missing just off Hurst Street.
It would be great to discuss how we want to represent ourselves at Pride this year. I've uploaded to the "files" on the yahoo group different flyer designs, and will be bringing these as documents to the group for us to pick a favourite. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/birmingham_bisexuals/files/
to check them out.
See you later!

What's going on with Birmingham Pride
Basically, the community charity aspect has folded & it has been taken over by the business (ie, nightclubs). Upshot being if you want a float on the march or stall in the community area you'll be paying, and lots.
There has been one planning meeting which had one community group member at it. It looks like we could march
in the parade for free, but the village green is unlikely to happen.
What does this mean for us? Well it looks worth still getting prepared to march in the parade, but if there's no village green we'll be spreading the word about the group on foot. More slapping stickers on people, painting tshirts, sticking up flyers. Less covering a table with glorious bi
Sadly my informant is fairly full of hot air so when he didn't know the answer to questions of cost, etc, he blathered rather than saying he didn't know. There's still stuff needs finding out, but at least we're not totally in the dark now.

Ideas for the front of a flyer for Pride:
Idea taken to be able to
recycle the pre-existing B*R*A website & banner, and the postcard will have brum-specific stuff on the back.
So... thoughts? Improvements? Want to upload your own ideas?

In all the kerfuffle about BiFest, I totally forgot about Birmingham Pride! 24th-26th May bank holiday weekend
, 2 months to go.
There's no information on any themes or how to get involved yet, but it's worth sticking the date in your diary. There's usually the parade on Saturday, stalls all weekend, and parties all the nights. Great for all you party animals, and a chance to reach out to the community for the whole group!
I'm going to start looking into badges, postcards, posters... anything other ideas?

Just a heads-up.
I've emailed The Wellington Hotel (strangely enough, a pub) about having the Birmingham BiFest there. Will keep the group up to date about any responses I get.
And could people link to the group site made by astras_brian
from their journal's/webpages/company websites? Would be good to force it up Google ;)http://brumbigroup.org.uk/
